Another busy month for the club, with the re- branded “North Dorset Cycle Ride” proving to be a great success. We welcomed two guest speakers; Kay McBride who shared the courageous story of her daughter Ruby-Mae, for whom we were able to raise £1,000 and Mike Hurley who gave us an enjoyable talk about the Rotary’s Young Chef competition.

April was another busy month for the Rotary club, as we welcomed two new members Tim Cook and Dave Britton to the club. We had the annual Young Chef competition which is supported by various Rotary clubs and we also welcomed our Heerlen friends over to stay with us for a weekend, where we toured the SS Great Britain and also visited Haines Motor Museum.

March was an excellent month here at Shaftesbury Rotary. We enjoyed a fantastic evening at the dog racing in poole (although none of us were very good gamblers!) which was great fun and something different. We also started a fantastic new project looking at a potential speedway track here in Shaftesbury thanks to Graham Sutton of Poole Speedway.

In February we enjoyed a wonderful talk from Shaftesbury Youth Club and also with Gerald Tagg about the local talking newspaper for blind people. Our incoming president Trish Lever also met with some nearly 70 Rotary Clubs where we received praise for our excellent website. We also discussed upcoming social events for 2017.

Happy New Year to you all! January is always a quiet month and we didn’t have our first meeting until the 23rd. This was mainly a catch up to discuss what we will be doing in 2017. We had a wonderful evening celebrating Burns Night with kilts and haggis a’plenty!

Merry Christmas to you all! A surprisingly busy month for the Rotarians! Our defibrillator demo evening was a great success and thank you to those that attended. We also had our end of year Christmas party at the Olive Bowl in Gillingham which was a great night.

November was an enjoyable month as we enjoyed an evening of musical talent from our very own Rotarian Bob Shearn, we also had a fantastic evening at the local fire station which gave us the chance to try out some of their equipment, and we also did our yearly collection of charity shoeboxes.

Wow! What a busy October Rotary have had with lots going on. We had our annual Golf Day which was a huge success, a wonderful talk from martin Sayers about small yacht sailing, a charity race night to help raise funds for a local church which was excellent fun as well as much, much more!

A fairly quiet month in September, we had a wonderful talk from Shirley and Michael from the Dorset Deaf Children’s Society as well as also getting a visit from our Australian Rotarians who presented the President with a special Rotarian pendant, and we talked about Sturminster Exchange.

August was a fairly quiet month with the bank holiday, but we did have some excellent speakers. We had two of our Business Partners from Glad Rags give an interesting talk about costumes and we also had Margaret Hannibal from Mosaic who provide support to young people and children who are dealing with bereavement.

Well July certainly was a busy month as we hosted our annual Gold Hill Fair which was another great success, a huge thank you to everyone that came and got involved. We also had some wonderful talks from the Royal National Institute for Blind people and also Trekkers Disabled Camp for Adults who do a fantastic job.

A fairly quiet month, we had a fantastic talk by Winston Fane-Bailey who is a retired Royal household protection officer, and we also welcomed our new President Bernard Skam. In the Club Assembly this month we discussed events including Gold Hill Fair, the are first annual charity cycle ride and plenty more.
