October 2025

13th October – Speaker meeting

After a visit from Fordingbridge Rotary, we will be reciprocating by sending a team to their November quiz.

Shoeboxes are now with the schools for them to prepare gifts and return.

Youth Competitions – Young Chef will be at Sturminster High School on January 22nd.

Youth Speaks will be on January 29th at Shaftesbury School.

We welcomed Colin Bowler from Shaftesbury Astronomy Club and Steve Tonkin from the Cranborne Chase International Dark Sky Reserve who gave us a fascinating talk. Only “Bernard” could and did insist on telling us how enlightened he felt. Preserving our Dark Skies – Cranborne Chase National Landscape

27th October – Business as usual with plenty of projects to discuss.

29th October – Rotarians today checking shoeboxes collected by pupils of Shaftesbury and Abbey Primary Schools. The Wessex Shoebox Appeal is supported by Rotary Clubs in the South of England. Last year the appeal collected over 18000 boxes. Having been checked and crated up, they are delivered by road to local Rotary Clubs and distributed to Disadvantaged and Displaced children for Christmas in Moldovan, Montenegro, Romania and Ukraine.

Thank you to the Parsons Family for using their home to carry out the work. Also Bargains of Shaftesbury for their generosity. Finally thank you to the families of Shaftesbury and Abbey Primary Schools for supporting the appeal and together with their generous donations.

Shaftesbury Shoeboxes safely delivered to Wessex District collection centre, all ready to be transported by Eastern Europe. Delivery of these boxes will make many children happy at Christmas. Thank You to all who took part.

30th October – Skittles evening at The Crown at East Stour.  An early meal followed by 3 rounds of skittles.  Seventeen members turned out to battle it out on the alley over 3 rounds.  Top lady & Top player was Genette beating Tim in the playoff.  The Halloween Fancy dress prize went to William as he was one of the few who fell for it.
