November 2024

2nd November – we held our second Halloween Walk. It was a great event bringing the club together to host a community event. Those taking part went out into the dark, had fun solving riddles along the walk, and received free gifts. Those who were brave enough discovered creatures hidden in the box of fear.  Thanks to Genette Gale, Lisa and all who helped to make the event happen after last year’s torrential rain.

8th November – members enjoyed The Rod Stewart Story at Salisbury Playhouse.  The show was great – an excellent tribute with a great backing band.  If you closed your eyes, he really could have been Rod himself.  Thanks to Peter Sale for organising.

10th November – eight of us, led by Acting President Peter and President-Elect Andy took part in the Remembrance Parade.  A large procession led by the Town Mayor and local MP Simon Hoare walked from Bell Street to the memorial on Park Walk where the Remembrance Service was held.  Several hundred people lined the streets of the route as well as others who gathered at the service.  Peter laid a wreath on behalf of the club. Thirty-five wreaths were laid at the Park Walk Memorial

11th November – the ‘two Adams’ from Bad Co. gave us a detailed talk about their charity and the work they have done over the last three years. To date they have provided free sessions of early intervention lifesaving mental health counselling for 183 people at a cost of £300 for six sessions. 22nd November – bingo at The Shaston Social Club. A good attendance filled the hall for 10 games of bingo with prizes kindly donated by Rotarians and local businesses. The event raised nearly £900 for local causes. Thanks to Win Harvey and Trish Lever, the Abbey School RotaKids, Andy, David, Genette & Lisa for all their efforts.

25th November – business as usual in the aftermath of Storm Bert. Plenty of discussion on forthcoming projects, including Circus Bezerkus, the Easter Fun Run, the North Dorset Cycle Ride, Youth Speaks, Young Chef and a possible RotaKids Sponsored Swim at Coombe House School to name just a few.
