13th November our first regular club meeting at The Grosvenor Hotel for some 20 years. The speaker this evening was Jackie Cuff of Farnfields who gave us a brief synopsis on Lasting Power of Attorney for health & wealth. Misfortune can strike anyone at anytime and any age, thus it can never be too soon to put the legal instrument in place to enable your trustees to act when required.
15th November RotaKids from the new club at Shaftesbury Primary joined Abbey Primary RotaKids and the Hilltop Litter Pickers on the first litter pick of the school academic year. Over 20 students headed for three locations around town; armed with litter pickers, gloves and rubbish bags.
As well as offering a valuable community service, the litter pick was also good fun for the students who took part with students from the two schools working as a team. Michelle Alford of The Hilltop Litter Pickers spoke to the students about the importance of keeping Shaftesbury clean and tidy. A fun question and answer session rounded off the trip.
21st November – A break from the norm, we met at Aroma for a Indian meal with partners and friends for a purely social evening, no business.
23rd November – DG George Phillips, District Governor attended the Abbey RotaKids meeting and presented certificates to this term’s club members. DG George told the RotaKids how impressed he was with their organisation and thanked them for their contribution to the local community in Shaftesbury, making specific reference to last week’s litter pick. DG George also congratulated Head Teacher Michael Salisbury on his efforts. Michael agreed to make an input on his experiences at a future District Meeting.
