After the busy festive period, 2019 has seen a quieter start as our hosts at the Fleur-de-lys take their annual holiday. However, the stakes were high with a Casino night in aid of Sepsis UK. We also welcomed Julia Killick who spoke of her time as Governor of HM Guys Marsh & Holloway Prisons.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! This most festive of months saw the Circus descend on Shaftesbury School, a spot of clay pigeon shooting and our Christmas meal. Also, in this season of giving, Rotarians were out rattling their tins for our regular Christmas charity collections.

With Christmas just around the corner, the annual shoebox appeal was all systems go in November. We also caught up with an old friend to hear about progress with the Dungri Village project, and Shaftesbury school sixth form pupils were put through their paces in mock interviews with some of our members.

October was a month of helping others. Jon Miles from Global Sight Savers spoke about their work helping prevent blindness in India and Africa. We learnt more about the efforts of Fathers House aiding local families and also, the Partners evening saw the presentation of the money raised from this year’s main events to their charities.

September saw a brilliant trip to visit our twinning town of Heerlen in the Netherlands, where we spent time with some truly fantastic hosts and enjoyed a wonderful weekend away. We also had some very interesting talks about Dementia and Fair Trade in Shaftesbury.
