6th – No meeting

13th – Step by Step

On the 13th August Hugh Foster, Senior Support Worker at Jude Court, supported accommodation for young people based in Shaftesbury spoke about the work he and his colleagues undertake in the provision of support for young adults.
Hugh gave a potted history of Step By Step, the charity that provides practical and emotional support in tandem with Sovereign Housing Association who provide the physical locations.
Step By Step now has five Foyers across the South in Aldershot, Fareham and Gosport, Basingstoke, Havant and in Shaftesbury.
The overall aim is help young people who have not had the opportunities afforded to most young adults, through training, apprenticeships and employment. Step by Step also attempts to develop social and emotional skills which will be of benefit in later life so the residents can exploit their greatest potential.

20th – Business Meeting

 Discussion took place on giving support to the South Dorset Cycle ride organised by Westbourne Rotary and the Cheese Festival organised by Sturminster Rotary. The full report of the meeting can be found on the members page within the next council meeting minutes.

27th – No meeting (Bank Holiday)


28th – Father’s House

Shaftesbury Rotary President, Guy Lowton presented a cheque to Helen Beecham (Office Administrator) of Fathers House on the 28th Aug. The money will be used to purchase household items for Open House which was launched 3 years ago to provide a place for anyone from the local community to come into a relaxed ‘coffee shop’ environment and receive help, advice and support.
