July

We entered July with arguably one of the biggest events of the year, the Gold Hill Festival. We also convened for our usual business meetings with an interesting talk on Henry V and medieval power politics from our guest speaker, whilst we invite you to take a look at an effective approach to charity fundraising from three Rotary clubs in Frome.

June

Change is afoot as we enter a new Presidential year at the Shaftesbury Rotary Club. We also received a very kind “thank you” for donations to good causes as well as information on the upcoming RotaKids, Youth Speaks and Young Chef programmes.

May

An eventful month that saw the Youth Speaks District Final take place, a battle against the weather with the North Dorset Cycle Ride, our business meetings, including the Club Assembly that saw the plans for the year from the incoming Rotary President plus a thank you from Aquabox.

April

A busy month saw a long-awaited Tapas night, a visit from a guest speaker to talk to us about climate change, our AGM and a special tree-planting as part of the continued build up to Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, at Shaftesbury School.

March

This month, we had an enjoyable trip to Salisbury Playhouse to take in a fantastic performance of Fascinating Aida. We also had our usual business meetings, including a couple of presentations. Finally, we have a press release on the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

February

After a quiet month in January, we got back into full swing for February. We had speakers from Shaftesbury Car Link not-for-profit community transport service. We also had our first social gathering of the new year. The Rotary’s Youth Speaks hosted a debate. We ended the month with our business meeting, with some worthwhile charitable donations.

January

January was a quiet month with just the one meeting. We did receive a wonderful letter from KidsOut for our recent support. We also look back at our pre-pandemic Casino night as well as an interesting piece from the Rotary magazine.

December

After 18 very happy years and memories, December sadly saw our last meeting at the always outstanding Fleur de Lys. We also met for a Christmas lunch at Rushmore Golf Club and finally snapped a handover photo of our President.

November

We got a taste of medieval battle this month as speaker Dan Evans discussed the battle of Agincourt. We also held our usual business meeting and look at an interesting piece from this month’s Rotary Magazine.
